MEDICATED ASSISTED TREATMENT

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

At Mazwi Holistic Institute, our MAT program offers a compassionate, evidence-based approach to opioid use disorder. We combine FDA-approved medications like Suboxone with individualized counseling and behavioral therapies to support long-term recovery. Clients are guided through treatment by our trusted network of licensed medical providers, including physicians and nurse practitioners, while receiving holistic support from our counseling team. This integrated model addresses the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of recovery—helping individuals rebuild their lives with dignity and stability.

How to Get Started with MAT at MHI

At Mazwi Holistic Institute, we make it simple and supportive to begin your recovery journey with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Our process is designed to ensure safety, comfort, and a personalized approach to care.

Step 1: Brief Phone Assessment

Your journey begins with a short phone call to our office. Our team will ask a few basic questions to understand your needs, explain the MAT process, and schedule your in-person intake with one of our certified or licensed clinicians.

Step 2: In-Person Clinical Evaluation

At your intake appointment, you’ll complete a comprehensive clinical assessment covering your substance use history, mental and physical health, and personal goals. This helps us create a treatment plan tailored to your unique situation.

Step 3: Lab Work & Withdrawal Assessment

Lab tests, including a urine drug screen, will be conducted to determine your current health status. We use the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) to evaluate the severity of withdrawal and decide the appropriate timing for medication.

Step 4: Medical Evaluation & Prescription

If MAT is clinically appropriate, you’ll be connected to a provider in our network of licensed physicians and nurse practitioners. The prescriber will review your results and, if indicated, initiate a prescription for Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone).

Step 5: Counseling & Holistic Support

Medication is just one part of healing. You’ll engage in regular counseling sessions and may also participate in mindfulness, job readiness, case management, and wellness services to support your full recovery.

Step 6: Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustments

As you move forward, you’ll have routine follow-ups to track your progress, adjust medication if needed, and ensure accountability through check-ins and random drug testing.
